Multi-color, professional CCD exposures of deep sky objects as an introduction to astronomical image processing taken with the 1-m Jacobus Kapteyn Telescope on La Palma.

This CD-ROM offers both students and teachers a realistic, professional set of data to reduce CCD exposures to quantitative, calibrated images from which one can analyse the scientific information. Such a set thus helps the teacher to focus on teaching as there is no need to look for suitable images, to find the appropriate calibration and other necessary files. These are all on this CD-ROM.

This CD-ROM contains raw, multi-color (R, V, and B for all, and Halpha and U for a selected set of objects) of 1124�24 CCD exposures in 2-byte integer FITS format of 30 well-known deep-sky objects, taken with the 1-meter Jacobus Kapteyn Telescope at the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory (Canary Islands, Spain).

In addition to teaching astronomical image processing, these data are also very useful for doing science in class. Some examples of such projects are given on the CD-ROM.

This CD-ROM is made following the ISO 9660 standard; suitable for DOS, Windows 3.x, 95, NT, UNIX/Linux, and Mac O/S. The disk contains 650 Mbyte of data.

NOTE: There is no software on this CD-ROM for reducing astronomical FITS images.
